Similarities

  • Unknown cause: the exact causes of Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Inflammatory Bowel Disease are not really known.
  • Stress trigger: the symptoms in both conditions can be aggravated by stress or stressful conditions.
  • Diet change helps relieve symptoms in both conditions
  • There is no permanent cure for both conditions
  • Some similarities in signs and symptoms: Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Inflammatory Bowel Disease symptoms are not entirely the same, but there are some symptoms that occur in both conditions. They include:
      1. Abdominal cramps
      2. Abdominal pain
      3. Diarrhea
      4. Nausea
      5. Vomiting
      6. Urgent bowel movement
