Five Stages of Kidney Failure

Stage 3

At this stage, the kidney has sustained moderate damage [6]. It is divided into 3A (GFR > 45 to 59 mL/min) and 3B (GFR > 30 to 44 mL/min). The kidney does not properly filter waste from the blood, causing a condition known as uremia.

Symptoms are more obvious, such as fatigue, swelling due to fluid retention, restless leg syndrome, foamy or dark urine, and back pain. People are more likely to begin developing complications associated with kidney disease at this stage, such as bone disease, high blood pressure and anemia.

You must begin seeing a kidney specialist at this stage to discuss treatment plans. You may also need to see a dietician.
