What Is Osgood-Schlatter Disease?
Osgood Schlatter disease is commonly known as osteochondrosis, and it refers to a condition that occurs when the tendon located in the knee is pulled against the upper region of the human shinbone. This results in major pain and discomfort around the knee as well as surrounding areas. Generally, tendons are referred to as a series of tissues that link the various muscles in the body to the bone. Due to the pulling of the patellar tendon around a specific part of the shinbone, the individual tends to feel intense pain and inflammation in the area.
This disease is known to occur mostly in children and teenagers who are still undergoing a growth spurt, as they are prone to performing various activities, such as participating in sporting activities. However, as children tend to stop their growing process, Osgood-Schlatter disease no longer occurs, and it does not result in any long-term challenges.
