Varicocele: Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis & Treatment

Causes of Varicocele

Medical professionals and healthcare providers are unsure about the exact cause of varicoceles. Some speculate that they could be caused by a malfunctioning “switch” (valve) in specific spermatic cord veins. Your testicles are fixed in place by a band of tissues called the spermatic cord. Your testicles’ blood is returned to your body through these veins.

The valve functions as something like an “on/off” switch. It features two structures that resemble flaps that aid in blood flow back towards your heart. Blood may accumulate inside the veins in your testicles when a valve doesn’t function as it should. Overtime, the veins will swell.

Anyone with testicles, regardless of age, can develop varicoceles. Many varicoceles, or congenital varicoceles, are thought to be present at birth. During their teen years, people frequently become aware of a varicocele. The increase in blood flow to your genitals during puberty, according to medical professionals, may be the cause of this. Your testicle’s proper growth may occasionally be hampered by the varicocele.
