10 Strategies for Managing Dyscalculia

Use visual aids

Visual aids make learning easier for dyscalculic students. They help students understand mathematical concepts better. For example, when you’re teaching students about exponents, drawing a big square where each side is four units long may help students with the disorder understand better. This way, the student can just count the total number of segments in the square (16) to understand the concept of perfect squares. These types of visual tricks will make math easier and more relatable for many students. Writing out the formula also creates a visual lesson for students to understand. Try colored beads to simplify counting and math concepts such as even and odds number.
