6 Symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder(BPD)

Impulsiveness

BPD can cause you to exhibit impulsive behaviors. [6] There are several ways this can manifest. You may feel a strong urge to participate in activities you know are wrong and irresponsible. These include going on spending sprees, abusing drugs, having unsafe sex with random people, drinking to stupor, or gambling with your last dime.

You may also struggle with an intense urge to self-harm. This can range from intense suicidal impulses to hurting yourself with sharp equipment even if you have no intention to take your life.

Unstable but Intense Relationships

If you have BPD, you may have unstable relationships with people, especially romantic ones. [7] You may become infatuated with a person quickly to the point you are convinced they are the right person for you, only to lose these feelings almost as fast as they came. This often causes how you relate to your partners to fluctuate between extremes. You may have many passionate but short-lived relationships with different people.

Conclusion

Having symptoms in this article may be indicative of borderline personality disorder, but it is not a sufficient basis for diagnosis. Mental illness symptoms can overlap and closely resemble each other. See a psychiatrist for proper evaluation and care.
