Symptoms of catatonia

There are several symptoms associated with catatonia, some of the most common ones include:
- Stupor, this is when a person can move, speak and just stares into space continuously.
- Pasturing, this is where a person stays in the same position for an extended period
- Loss of appetite, causing malnourishment and dehydration
- Echolalia, this is when a person responds to conversation by only repeating what they’ve heard
Some other symptoms include:
- Mutism
- Grimacing
- Catalepsy
- Negativism, i.e. lack of response to external stimuli
- Agitation
Although there are certain symptoms that are specific to the different types of catatonia and symptoms that require immediate treatment.
