How to Know If Someone Is Faking Depression

Actual Symptoms of Depression

Generally symptoms of depression are not easy to spot. A person can seem fine or happy on the surface, while privately experiencing serious symptoms of depression. In many cases, the only way to know if someone is suffering from depression is if they tell you explicitly what they are feeling.

Even though it’s not easy to detect depression, there are certain signs that are associated with depression.

Some symptoms of depression include:

  • Find it difficult to think straight, remember things, or make decisions
  • Fatigue and lack of energy
  • Talk about feeling guilty, worthless, or helpless
  • Seem really hopeless or pessimistic about life
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Seem irritable or restless
  • Seem to not be interested in things that they used to enjoy like hobbies
  • Seem to be losing or gaining weight without trying
  • Complain of pain, headaches, or digestive problems that don’t seem to get better even with treatment

These signs indicate that one may be experiencing depression. If someone you know has such symptoms or seems to be struggling, you can reach out and offer your support.
