Different Types and Symptoms of Mesothelioma

Pleural Mesothelioma Symptoms

Pleural mesothelioma affects the pleura (lining of the lungs). Most of the symptoms can be felt in the cavity of the chest, where it manifests chiefly as respiratory problems.

Shortness of Breath and Fluid Buildup

Shortness of breath is the feeling of being unable to get enough air into your lungs. This symptom is often seen in those affected by this type of mesothelioma. As the cancer worsens and destroys more cells in the lungs, the lungs drop in efficiency and are not able to handle as much work as they used to.

Malignant tumors in the lining of the lungs can cause fluid to build up in the pleura. This is known as pleural effusion [3].
