Peritoneal Mesothelioma Symptoms

Peritoneal mesothelioma targets the abdominal lining (peritoneum). The symptoms are usually observed in the abdominal region. Peritoneal mesothelioma is often misdiagnosed as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or Crohn’s disease.
Abdominal Swelling or Distention
Mesothelioma in the peritoneum can result in externally visible swelling or distention [6]. This can happen due to a variety of factors, including the specific abdominal organs affected. If the tumors irritate some abdominal organs, it may trigger inflammation or cause the organs to become enlarged over time. This can cause the abdomen to become swollen and distended. Distention may also happen due to direct stretching of the abdominal lining as the cancer progresses.
