The Effectiveness of Antidepressants

Antidepressants have shown to be effective treatment for migraine headaches. Specifically, an SSRI called fluoxetine has become highly recommended to help reduce monthly migraine hours. There are certain side effects that are associated with the use of antidepressant medications, some of which include vomiting, nausea, dry mouth, drowsiness, and rapid heart rate. Although they are effective to prevent migraine headaches, they can take up to 4 weeks before they start to show benefits.
