What Causes a Migraine?

Stress

Research showed that 80% of the people experiencing hemicrania reported stress as the trigger. In a study published in 2007 in Cephalalgia, “stress in private life” and “psychic tension” were associated with an increased risk of migraine attacks. And researchers found there are strong associations between migraines and job stress, which they defined as low job control, high job demands, and low social support. Stress can play many roles in migraines. It can exacerbate the frequency of migraine attacks, or pre-onset features, prognostic factors, or the outcome of the onset. In addition, stress may be a risk factor for migraine attacks and is a common cause. [5] Stress may also cause migraine auras, which is when the throbbing or pulsing in the head is accompanied by light sensitivity, vision problems, and a tingling sensation in the face, hands, or feet. Relaxing after performing high-intensity activities and high-stress levels are the leading triggers of migraine auras. [6]
