What Causes a Migraine?

Genetics

DNA differences don’t actually cause migraines, on the contrary, they make your body function differently, and increasing the likelihood that migraine triggers will affect you. Although scientists are still researching the link between genetics and migraine, both the environment and genetics play a role, and the reports have shown that ninety percent of the people suffering from hemicrania had older family members sharing the same condition. This similarity may be due to the similar environment and risk factors shared by blood relatives. In fact, if one or both of your parents has migraines, you are also more likely to experience these headaches.
Ocular migraines are headaches that are accompanied by temporary loss of eyesight and have been linked to estrogen levels. Research has shown that this type of headache runs among the females in a family. [7]
