Lifestyle Factors

Lifestyle factors such as age (young people), higher level of education, caffeine consumption, excess alcohol consumption and smoking are all associated with teeth grinding. Consumption of psychoactive substance such as tobacco, caffeine [4], alcohol and drugs for sleep, anxiety and depression elevates arousal. These drugs lead to sleeping difficulties such as inability to fall asleep, remaining asleep for a long time and daytime sleepiness. Teeth grinding is more common in people that consume psychoactive substances. People that use recreational drugs such as ecstasy and cocaine [5] also experience bruxism than other people.
