Common Causes of Canker Sores

Stress & Genetic Predisposition

Exams, work, the reconciliation of family and work life (any situation that generates stress [7]) can cause lead to development of canker sores as stress lowers the immune response of the body. It is important that you find ways to combat anxiety and stress to prevent the development of canker sores.

Genetic predisposition is a common cause of canker sores. It is very normal for several members of the same family to suffer them, since it seems that there is a genetic component among its causes. So, if your father or mother usually have them, it is very possible that you also develop canker sores later on.

There is no way to regulate genetic factors, but there are approaches to minimize the risk of development such as limiting of acidic fruits e.g. pineapples and spicy foods, as they can irritate the lining of the mouth and make it easier for the sore to emerge.

AIDS, celiac disease, and Mucocutaneous disorders, such as Behçet’s disease [8] can lead to the development of canker sores.
