Common Causes of Canker Sores

Nutritional Deficiencies, Hormonal Changes, & Allergies

Ulcers can arise from a lack of vitamins and minerals, mainly when there are nutritional deficiencies [4] of iron, folic acid, zin and vitamin B12. It is necessary to ingest more animal products, such as eggs, meat, and, milk with the guidance of a nutritionist, to meet the daily need for folate, zinc, vitamin B12, and iron.

Mouth sores affect women twice as much as men and are believed to be hormonal causes. In fact, in many women they often appear at some point in the menstrual cycle [5].

Hypersensitivity and allergies to foods [6] such as nuts, lemon, strawberries or chocolate can cause one to develop canker sores.
