Common Causes of Canker Sores

Infection & Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis (RAS)

An immune reaction against common bacteria in the oral flora can lead to the development of canker sores. Some viral infections [2] also can manifests themselves in this type of mouth wound.

One example is recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). It usually affects [3] between 20 and 30% of adults and a high percentage of children. These are the cases in which recurrent oral ulcers (UOR) occur, the most common inflammatory disorder in the oral cavity. The reason for its appearance is not clear, but there it may be due to family trend.
