Long Face Syndrome: Symptoms, Causes, and Treatment

Diagnosis of facial hyper divergence

It is hard to differentiate between a person that has a normally long or narrow face and a person that has the syndrome. You must visit your health care professionals or a dentist if you think you or your child has long face syndrome.

The major thing a doctor looks out for in children to determine if they have long face syndrome is how they breathe. If a child breathes from the mouth, it may mean he has the syndrome. In some cases, the child may have a misaligned jaw or a ‘gummy” smile.

In elderly people, long face syndrome is mostly observed during a dental condition or sleep apnea diagnosis. When you show signs of the syndrome, your health care provider will begin by evaluating the face. Your doctor may take an X-ray to accurately measure the proportion of your facial features. Most times, the measurement taken is enough to diagnose facial hyper divergence.
