Use a Preventative Medication
Take preventive medicine that has been prescribed to you by your doctor or get vaccinated.
Consider whether you typically get large or severe skeeter syndrome reactions to mosquito bites. When you know you’ll be among mosquitoes, you might wish to take a non-drowsy, over-the-counter antihistamine.
Cut down on Mosquitoes Surrounding Your House
Eliminate any standing water so mosquitoes won’t have a place to reproduce. Use these instructions to prevent mosquito ponds in your home and yard:
- clear out the gutters on the roof.
- Wading pools for kids should be emptied at least once a week, ideally more frequently.
- Remove used tires from your yard.
- At least once per week, change the water in birdbaths.
- Outdoor flower pots should be frequently empty or stored upside down to prevent water accumulation.
