What is Rhinorrhea?

What drugs can lead to a runny nose?

Various drugs have rhinorrhea as a side effect. When your runny nose occurs due to usage of a certain drug, it is known as non allergic rhinitis. Drugs that can cause rhinorrhea include:

  • Blood pressure drugs, such as ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme) inhibitors and beta-blockers)
  • Antidepressants [2]
  • Erectile dysfunction drugs [3]
  • Birth control pills

If you take drugs used to treat prostate enlargement, you may experience a runny nose without any particular cause. It would help to contact your doctor immediately if you have rhinorrhea when using these drugs. Your doctor will prescribe other similar drugs that can help you. You may also have to take a drug to counteract symptoms like rhinorrhea.

Studies show that some recreational medications, such as cocaine can also lead to rhinorrhea.
