Obesity

Obesity is a condition that worsens acute pancreatitis severity. It allows unregulated lipolysis of visceral fat enriched in unsaturated triglyceride. This state leads to the release of UFAs, which end up inhibiting the mitochondrial complexes I and complexes V, and worsens acute pancreatitis. Study [4] shows that obese patients develop local and systemic complications of acute pancreatitis more regularly. Aside from pancreatitis, obesity is associated with higher risks of medical conditions like type-2 diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. Several factors cause obesity. Examples of some of the significant causes of obesity include pregnancy, aging, genetics, and lack of adequate sleep. Overall, the leading cause of obesity is taking more calories than the individual can burn daily exercises or conventional activity. Some medical conditions can cause weight gain. Examples of these health conditions include polycystic ovary syndrome, Cushing syndrome, hypothyroidism, osteoarthritis, and Prader-Willi syndrome.
