Polymyalgia Rheumatica Diet: Foods to Eat and Avoid

Lots of Fluid

Dehydration can worsen the symptoms of inflammation caused by polymyalgia rheumatica. Drinking more water than you usually do can help you reduce inflammation. You should aim to drink at least two or three liters of water every day. Instead of plain water, you can drink mineral water which contains many useful electrolytes, or water that’s been flavored with lemon or orange.

Coffee is another fluid that can help some people combat inflammation. You shouldn’t go on a coffee drinking spree because of this information. A study [4] revealed that the anti-inflammatory activity of coffee varies from person to person. It reduces inflammation in some people. In others, it can worsen inflammation instead of reducing it. It’s best to observe if drinking a cup of coffee makes your symptoms better or worse before committing to it.

If your symptoms tend to get worse after drinking coffee, you can try drinking herbal tea instead to see if they improve.
