Ventilators and Antibiotics

Poliomyelitis is usually characterized by paralysis of respiratory muscles. People with breathing problems may need artificial supports such as ventilators to help them breathe properly.
Doctors may prescribe antibiotics for people with urinary tract infections [1]. In some cases, problems in urinating may be due to d the inability to start urinating. This may cause retention of urine, and as a result infections in the tract. Doctors prescribe drugs such as Bethanechol to treat urinary retention. If the infection is severe, a urinary catheter may be inserted to aid urination. In cases of severe complications such as pneumonia, antibiotics will play a significant role in treating the condition.
Cor pulmonary [2], a type of heart failure (occurring in the right side of the body) may occur in some patients with polio. Heart illnesses such as myocarditis [3] and high blood pressure [4] may also occur in some patients. Patients in these conditions need the right therapy.
