Irrigate with a neti pot
A neti pot [7] is a small device used to irrigate the sinuses. These devices are small and shaped like teapots. They have a curve that allows you to pour liquid directly into your nostrils to relieve congestion. They work by loosening mucus and flushing materials causing the blockage in your sinuses.
Neti pots keep your mucus membrane moist and are sold at many local pharmacies. Neti pots are often filled with saltwater before use. You may also use distilled water. Any water you use in a neti pot must be sterile. You must also clean the pot thoroughly before and after use. Otherwise, you risk giving yourself an infection.
To use this device [8], hold your head over a sink and place the spout of the pot in one nostril. Hold the pot up at an angle that sends water into your nostril. This water will flow through your nasal cavity and flush out blockages before coming out through the other nostril. Repeat this process with the other nostril after a while.
