Sallow Skin – What It Is, Causes, Treatments and More

Causes of Sallow Skin

Sallow skin is a medical condition that is not only related to aging, there are other health conditions that may increase the risk of this condition such as:

Stress and Anemia

The skin is literally the largest organ of the body, when the skin experiences stress, it is more obvious compared to other parts of the body. Stress increases the release of hormone cortisol which can be caused for sallow skin. Stress also leads to high blood pressure and sometimes weight gain or loss in some individuals. Therefore, it is important to manage your stress level.

When the red blood cells do not produce excess oxygen that the body needs, it results in anemia [1]. Lack of enough oxygen in the body system causes tiredness and weakness. The skin experiences this weakness and begins to look pale and yellowish. Severe anemia may also be a result of kidney disease or autoimmune diseases. In such situations, the doctors begin treatments for such diseases and this helps to keep sallow skin under control.
