Types And Symptoms of Staph Infections

Bloodstream Infection (Bacteremia)

Staph bacteria can invade the bloodstream and cause infection. From the blood, the bacteria can infect other parts of the body like the heart valves and bones. They can also colonize any artificial medical device in the body like artificial heart valves, joints, heart pacemakers and catheters.

Staph infections can be treated using antibiotics prescribed by the doctor. Some staph bacteria can develop resistance against antibiotics, and this can slow down or prevent treatment of the infection. To prevent staph infections, proper hygiene, maintaining aseptic procedure during surgeries, proper care of wounds are practical measures to take.[7]
