10 Common STDs You Should Know About

Chlamydia

Chlamydia [3] occurs due to an infection with the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. It can have detrimental effects on the female reproductive system and affect the urinary systems of both sexes. Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted infection, according to research from the United States. Over 100, 000 cases of chlamydia are recorded every year. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), around 80% of chlamydia infections happen in individuals under the age of thirty. Sexual contact with an infected partner’s mouth, penis, anus, or vagina can spread chlamydia.  Transmission from an infected mother to the newborn can also happen after childbirth and result in pneumonia or conjunctivitis in the infant.
