Gonorrhea

Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the bacteria that causes gonorrhea [4], is a sexually transmitted infection that primarily affects younger people, typically those in the 15–24 age range. Antibiotics can treat it, but it can cause infections in the throat, rectum, and genitalia. About 700,000 Americans contract the infection every year.
When gonorrhea strikes, both males and females are susceptible to major side effects, such as infertility. Typically, gonorrhea affects the male rectum, throat, or urethra. Gonorrhea can also infect the cervix in females. It can therefore spread during oral, anal, and vaginal sex. Additionally, during birthing, a pregnant person may pass on the virus to their unborn child.
