6 Common Symptoms of Stomach Flu(Gastroenteritis)

Nausea and vomiting

People with stomach flu may experience nausea, vomiting, or both [5]. Nausea is the sick feeling that often precedes vomiting. It may or may not lead to actual vomiting, but it often feels very much like it will.

Vomiting involves expelling contents from your stomach. This content may be food or liquid. Like diarrhea, vomiting can lead to dehydration if it is frequent and contains a lot of liquid. Drinking plenty of water and using homemade oral rehydration solutions to replace lost fluid and electrolytes.

Thirst, dry lips, and lightheadedness

Some people, especially children, become thirstier and develop drier skin or lips during the stomach flu. They may also feel dizzy or lightheaded. In addition to these, you may notice that your baby’s diapers are drier. These are signs of dehydration [6] and usually result from loss of body fluid and electrolytes through diarrhea and vomiting. It can be managed by rehydrating the person orally. If the infection is severe and they cannot keep anything down, they may receive intravenous (IV) rehydration therapy.
