What Causes Strep Throat?

Treatment

While there are risks of life-threatening complications, strep infections are mostly mild and do not go on to do any serious damage when treated. Strep throat can be relieved by using antibiotics such as amoxicillin and penicillin but home remedies exist. Over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen and Tylenol can also be used to relieve symptoms.

Children who have strep throat usually feel better within 24 to 48 hours [7]. The risk of transmission to others also drops significantly. If there are no signs of relief after 48 hours, you should see a doctor.

The full dosage must be completed when treating strep throat with antibiotics. A full treatment usually takes about 10 days. Many people stop immediately the symptoms have subsided and it increases that the infection will recur.

Conclusion

Strep throat is an infection of the throat that can be managed with the right treatment. Avoid the risk of complications or recurrence by treating it on time. Maintain good hygiene to reduce the risk of contracting the bacteria. If you suspect that you or your child has contracted strep, you should contact a physician immediately.
