FOLFOX Chemotherapy – Side Effects, Regimen and More

Is the FOLFOX Chemotherapy Treatment Potent?

In most cases, people with colorectal cancer may have to undergo surgery to remove any damaged part of the colon. Chemotherapy is usually recommended after surgery to destroy remaining cancer cells that may have moved from the colon. According to Studies, the potency of FOLFOX depends on the grade and stage of cancer.

A study in 2016 observed how many cycles of adjuvant FOLFOX are required to treat patients with stage 3 colon cancer. The study discovered that the 213 participants experienced a 5-year overall survival rate of 77.9 percent. It also showed that FOLFOX enhanced the total survival rate in people who got eight cycles.

A study done in 2019 examined the use of FOLFOX and compared it to another chemotherapy procedure, known as FOLFIRI. The study examined the effects of these two therapies in people with stage 4 colon cancer. After the study, the researchers discovered that there was no difference in survival rate between the two procedures. However, FOLFOX was more common because it has less severe and fewer side effects, and is more effective in treating stage 3 cancer.

According to research, FOLFOX may be potent for treating aggressive pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours after you use the drugs capecitabine and temozolomide. However, the response rate is slow and new treatments may be required immediately.
