Who is likely to get BV

Bacterial vaginosis can happen to anyone with a vagina. It is more common in those that are sexually active. It is rare for it to occur to people who have never had sex. Some people may naturally produce too much of the bacteria that causes BV.

Some of the factors that increases the risk of getting BV include:

  • If you are pregnant
  • If you have an intrauterine device (IUD)
  • If you don’t use condoms or intrauterine devices (IUD).
  • If you have multiple sex partners
  • If you have a sex partner who’s AFAB
  • If you have a new sex partner
  • If you use douches.
  • Taking antibiotics [1].
