Breast Lumps: Cancerous vs. Noncancerous

Breast fibroadenomas

Breast fibroadenomas are benign growths that have glandular and connective tissue. Women in their 20s and 30s are commonly affected by this growth but they can happen at any age.

They appear round and firm. Fibroadenomas can go underneath the skin during a breast self-exam. However, they are commonly seen on the surface of the breast. In some cases, they appear too little feel and maybe observed unknowingly by a mammogram [3].

Your doctor may recommend removal after diagnosing with a biopsy. Lumpectomy [4], radiofrequency ablation, and a number of other fibroadenoma treatments can be used to remove the benign tumor.

Adenosis

This is a harmless growth that causes an enlargement in the lobules of the breast. A breast lobule is a gland that makes milk. A lump that looks like a cyst or a tumor can be caused by adenosis. When observed through a mammogram, calcifications may be observed.
