Catamenial (Menstrual-Linked) Epilepsy Overview

Symptoms of Catamenial Epilepsy

Catamenial epilepsy can cause a more severe seizure flare up at specific times during your menstrual cycle. Seizures can be worse in people who have either generalized or focal epilepsy.

Focal seizure is a type that affects just one side of the brain. Symptoms relating to focal seizures include jerking, tingling, dizziness, confusion, blank staring, poor vision, repetitive motions, bloated stomach and emotional instability.

Generalized seizures are a type that affects both the left and right parts of the brain. Symptoms include jerking, twitching, stiffness, falling, loss of consciousness, confusion, crying out, loss of control of bladder or bowel function and lack of breathing.
