Endometriosis: Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis & Treatment

Risk factors for endometriosis

Certain factors can make you more susceptible to endometriosis. Some of these factors are:

  • The age you had your first period. According to research, people who started seeing their periods before 11 years are more prone to endometriosis.
  • Family history of endometriosis.
  • The length of your menstrual cycle (shorter time between periods) and the time of flow (how many days of bleeding).

The main causes of endometriosis are unknown. According to experts, there is a relationship between a family history of the disease and an increased risk of having the condition. If someone in your family has experienced the condition, it would help to talk to your doctor to determine your risk.
