Infradian Rhythm – An Overview

Hormone Balance

The menstrual infradian rhythm doesn’t last forever.

The rhythm isaltered significantly at the age of menopause. Hormonal balance is disrupted causing unprecedented changes in the body, emotions and mind.

In most cases, women have permimenopause in their 40s before menopause starts. [3]

The body starts to release smaller hormones during menopause. But, this occurs gradually.

Symptoms of perimenopause include the following:

  • Hot flashes
  • Night sweats
  • Mood changes
  • Energy fluctuations

It is important to talk to your doctor if these symptoms stop you from performing your daily routine.

These symptoms can be managed by the following:

  • Diet changes
  • Supplements
  • Hormone replacement therapy [4]

If you experience weight gain, you should see a gynecologist to test you for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

The monthly menstrual cycle can range from 21 to 35 days. Therefore, there’s a wide range of definition of ‘what’s healthy’. Study your periods to make sure yours occur within those limits and, if not, visit a gynecologist.

You will experience balance and ease in every area of your life if you pay more attention to your infradian rhythm.

After studying your period for a few months, you’ll start to understand how long your phases tend to last. You can also use a test stick to know when you will ovulate within your cycle.

For example, people can have a menstruation phase that lasts 4 days, a follicular phase that lasts 10 days, an ovulation phase that lasts 3 days, and a luteal phase that lasts 13 days. This makes the cycle occur for 30 days.

It is easy to make a plan for your diet, exercise, sleep and social life, generally based on your own rhythms, if you understand your cycle.
