Wet Mount (Vaginitis Test): Procedure, Results & More

What do the test results mean?

If the result obtained from a wet mount is abnormal, it implies that there is an infection.

The doctor observes the sample under a microscope for signs of candida yeast infections or the presence of certain bacteria or other microbes. Examples of these bacteria are gardnerella and the trichomonas parasite.

Bacterial vaginosis is caused by Gardnerella, while the Trichomonas [1] parasite causes trichomoniasis, a sexually transmitted infection (STI).

In some cases, some people experience multiple Vaginitis at a time. Other popular types of Vaginitis are viral vaginitis, noninfectious (irritant) vaginitis, and atrophic vaginitis.
