Is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Right for Your Child?

How to Find the Right Therapist and What Is the Goal of ABA Treatment?

One of the best ways to find a certified therapist is through a recommendation from your child’s paediatrician. You can also search online for local providers. A board-certified behavior analyst (BCBAs) [5] may also work directly with some children, but in many cases, they supervise other professionals or paraprofessionals who have ABA training.

Some professionals aren’t certified in ABA but have ABA training and can provide therapy that works well for your child. You should ensure at least one BCBA supervision if your child attends an ABA center.

ABA treatment goals depend on the child’s individual needs. However, some of the results of ABA in a child include:

  • An improved communication skill
  • Showing more interest in people around them
  • Learning to ask about their wants clearly and specifically
  • An increased level of focus in school
  • Reducing the habit of self-harm
  • Having fewer tantrums or other outbursts
