Late Stages

Symptoms in later stages occur after two weeks of the fever. The skin on certain parts of the body such as the hands and feet of your child may start to peel. In some cases, children may experience joint pain or temporary arthritis.
Late stages of KD may also be accompanied by the following symptoms:
- Abdominal pain
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea [2]
- Gallbladder inflammation [3]
- Temporary hearing loss [4]
It is important to call your doctor if your child is experiencing any of these symptoms. Studies show that children who are younger than 1 or older than 5 are more likely to experience partial symptoms. These children account for about 25% of KD cases that are at a high risk of developing heart problems and complications.
