Symptoms of Kawasaki Disease

Kawasaki disease occurs in stages. Therefore, the signs and symptoms that manifest depend on the stage. The condition mostly occurs during spring and late winter. The symptoms of the disease may worsen during the middle of summer. Let’s take a look at the symptoms that occur in each stage of the disease.

Early Stages

Early stages of Kawasaki disease is usually accompanied by symptoms that may persist for more than one week. Some of these symptoms include:

  • “Strawberry” tongue, which appears shiny and bright with red spots
  • Red palms and soles of the feet
  • Bright red, swollen lips
  • Rash on the torso and groin
  • Bloodshot eyes, without crusting
  • Swollen lymph nodes [1]
  • Swollen hands and feet
  • High fever that persists for five or more days

In some cases, early stages of KD may also be accompanied by heart problems.
