Recovering after the Procedure
Unlike other surgical procedures, it doesn’t take long to recover from blepharoplasty. You will be transferred to a recovery room immediately after the procedure. Your doctor will observe you for a few days for side effects. If there are no complications, you will be asked to go home.
You must get adequate rest for some days after the eyelid surgery. You will also experience some swelling and pain. Your doctor may tell you to take ibuprofen to treat these symptoms. In most cases, it usually takes a week or two to get over the symptoms completely. Your doctor may advise you to apply ice packs to the eye for a few days.
If you experience short-term side effects such as sensitivity to light and blurry vision, it would help to contact your doctor immediately. You can wear contact lenses for two weeks after the eyelid surgery. Having an alternative, such as prescription glasses will help protect your eyes.
You don’t have to cover your eyes throughout the recovery process. Your doctor may give you a gauze when going home to protect your eyes. You must also wash the area and keep it clean. You will have to go back to your surgeon after a few days for evaluation and to remove any stitches.
