Procedure of Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasties are done on an outpatient basis. That is, you don’t have to wait in the hospital after the procedure. You can go home. General anesthesia is only used to block pain in some people. Your surgeon will inject an agent into your eyelids to make you stop feeling pain.
Your surgeon starts with the upper eyelids. A small incision will be made on the upper part of your eyelids and excess skin will be removed. Your surgeon will also remove muscle and sometimes fat. Some tissues will be transferred to other regions surrounding the eye before your surgeon closes the incision.
Then your surgeon moves to the lower eyelid, this region usually involves removing fat that contributes to the under-eye bags. It also involves removal of a small amount of skin. The inclusion may either be on the inside of the eyelid or on the outside beneath the lower eyelashes. In some people, the lower eyelid may be tightened or attached to the bony skeleton.
Insurance only covers the procedure if you are undergoing eyelid surgery to treat vision disorders. It would help to talk to your doctor about all the costs before the procedure begins. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost for eyelid surgery is $3,022.
