Blepharoplasty: Everything You Need To Know

How to Prepare for Blepharoplasty

There are many complex processes involved in preparing for eyelid surgery. You must first get a first consultation with a plastic surgeon to discuss your concerns and what you want to get out of the surgery. It would also help to ask your surgeon about their credentials and experiences with Blepharoplasty.

Your surgeon will order some tests to be done on you before you undergo this procedure. You will undergo a physical examination to observe and measure your eyes. Your surgeon will also order a vision and tear test. Finally, your doctor will take pictures of your eyelids to help during the procedure.

Your doctor must be aware of any drugs that you are taking before beginning the procedure. It would help to let your doctor know if you are taking any of these drugs:

  • Prescription drugs
  • Over-the-counter remedies
  • Herbal supplements [1]

Your doctor will also tell you to stop using drugs that increase bleeding risks, such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or warfarin [2]. You will also have to stop smoking several weeks before a Blepharoplasty.

After the surgery, your eyes may get swollen for a few weeks. This may affect your ability to perform certain activities. Therefore, it is important to also prepare for the few days after surgery. Doctors recommend cooking meals ahead of time, and making sure you have all the items you need so you don’t have to leave home for anything. You will also need a friend or a loved one to take you home after the surgery.
