How to Sync Your Yoga Practice with the Phases of the Moon

Yoga is an ancient practice that involves stretching your body in a defined manner. Contrary to popular opinion, it is not a practice that involves only physical routines. According to experts, a good way to go deeper is to connect the practices with the phases of the moon.

In this article, we will discuss the relationship between the moon and yoga, and how to link your practice with the phases of the moon.

How is yoga linked to the moon?

Hatha yoga is one of the most practiced types of yoga practice in the world. The word “hatha” means to be more “willful.” However, it can also mean “sun” (ha) and “moon” (tha) in transkrit. There are majorly two types of energy that can be drawn from the moon; the active, fiery solar energy is known as “masculine” while the peaceful, thoughtful energy is known as “feminine.” The popularity of the Hatha practice is due to its ability to balance and sustain these polar energies inside a human.

The “masculine” and “feminine” energy that can be derived from the moon do not refer to your biological gender or sex. They are used to describe the complementary energies that abide in you, no matter what your sex or gender says. This concept is similar to the Yin and Yang practice in Chinese medicine.
