Foods That Trigger Acid Reflux

Mint and Tomatoes

Peppermint isn’t ideal if you are prone to heartburn. Like when you consume fatty foods, consuming peppermint or spearmint teas relaxes the esophageal muscles (sphincter) and increases the risk of gastric juices or undigested food flowing back into the food pipe.

It is best to take all precautions to avoid heartburns so, mint chewing-gums and toothpaste should also be avoided.

Tomatoes are nutritious vegetables containing antioxidants that help strengthen the immune system. However, tomatoes have a high acidic content – malic and citric acid. Both acids stimulate the stomach to produce excess amounts of gastric acid. When there is a rise in gastric acid levels, there is bound to be a backflow into the food pipe lining, known as the esophagus.
