Rhonchi and Rales – What to Know About Lung Sounds

What are the types of abnormal breath sounds?

Adventitious Lund sounds can occur in different forms, such as;

  • Rales: This sound is heard during inhalation. It is a fine, high-pitched crackling or rattling sound.
  • Rhonchi: Rhonchi sounds like snoring. It has a low pitch.
  • Wheezing: Wheezing can be heard during inhalation or exhalation. It has a high pitch and sounds like a long squeak.
  • Stridor: Stridor sounds like a cough or bark. It has a high pitch.

When you hear any of these sounds, your lungs have problems. It could be any problem in your airways, so your doctor has to properly diagnose the condition before giving treatment.
