What other documents do you need when applying for certain parts of Medicare?
The documents listed above are required to enroll in Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) and Medicare Part B (medical insurance) [2]. Part A and B are known as original Medicare. You must enroll in original Medicare before enrolling in any other Medicare parts. Other Medicare Parts include:
- Medicare Part C [3]: This is also called Medicare Advantage
- Medicare Part D [4]: This is also referred to as prescription drug coverage.
- Medicare supplement insurance: This plan is also known as Medigap [5]
You don’t have to submit any extra documents when enrolling in these parts. All you need to submit is the date you enrolled in Medicare Part A [6] and your Medicare number.
