ESRD

Children with ESRD are qualified for Medicare. But they must have a parent who meets the retirement benefits requirement and work credit. The child must show an ESRD diagnosis, and meet one of the following criteria:
- Must have had a kidney transplant [2]
- Must need frequent dialysis [3] treatments
Children will be qualified for coverage if they have ESRD and meet any of these criteria. In most cases, Medicare coverage will be for 1 year after the child’s last dialysis treatment or 3 years after a kidney transplant. If a child needs more treatment, coverage will start again.
Children older than 20 years with a disability must meet some requirements to access Medicare coverage. For example, they must get Social Disability Insurance (SSDI) for two years or more. People younger than 22 under Social Security can get the insurance without working. However, the disability must start before 18 years old.
Therefore, for a child between the ages of 20 and 22 years to qualify for Medicare coverage, the disability must start at any age younger than 18 years. Kids must follow Social Security’s rules to qualify for insurance. Also, the disability must stop them from working or performing some exercise routines.
