Can a Child Qualify for Medicare?

Medicare and Children

Medicare is mostly for adults with disabilities or health conditions however, it can cover children in serious situations. According to Medicare, a child is someone who is not married or someone younger than 22 years. If your child meets these criteria, the company will offer coverage until they are 26 years old. However, they must remain a bachelor or spinster and meet other criteria.

In addition, a child that meets the age criteria must have legal guardians or parents who have worked for 6 or more Social Security work credits in 3 years or get Social Security retirement benefits.

Children can qualify for Medicare coverage through qualified adoptive, step, and biological parents. However, the parents must follow certain rules. For example, stepparents must be with the child for 1 year or more to qualify for coverage. In some cases, the company may also allow kids to qualify through step-grandparents and grandparents. It would help to know that only kids with disabilities can access medicare coverage. Also, the company gives a certain time when a child will qualify for coverage.
