COBRA and Medicare Coordination

Is it Possible to Have COBRA and Medicare at the Same Time?

You can enjoy the benefits of COBRA and Medicare at the same time if you were already signed in to Medicare when you become qualified to access COBRA. For example, people who are 67 years old and can access both coverages from their employer and Medicare coverage, will be able to qualify for Medicare and COBRA [1].

However, if you become qualified to access Medicare while you’re already signed in to COBRA, your COBRA coverage will terminate after a while. Therefore, leaving your job at age 64 and signing in to COBRA means the coverage will terminate when you become 65 years old and sign in for Medicare.
